Turkish President stepped in to prevent the execution of Jamaat leaders

President of the Republic of Turkey Abdullah Gul has sent a letter to the President of Bangladesh with a request to prevent the execution of Professor Ghulam Azam, reports major national dailies of Turkey.

As a background of this extraordinary step, Abdullah Gul mentioned in his letter that recently a group of 100 Bangladeshi and Turkish activists meet him and Vice-President to apprised them about the War-crime trial and  recent political situation in Bangladesh. After consultation with Foreign Ministry, President Gul has sent this letter to his counterpart in Bangladesh.

In his letter he hoped that this might be the ‘first step to stop unjust against Ghulam Azam’.

Major newspapers in Turkey have published the news with importance and heading ‘Stop Execution’.

Daily New Dawn has expressed it apprehension that the way government is rushing for the trial unfair execution may take place on March 26, 2013.
