Savar rape-victim describes brutality

A college girl who was violated by a youth in Savar on November 25 last year made a judicial statement before a Dhaka court on Monday.

Judicial Magistrate Lubna Jahan recorded the statement of the victim under article 22 of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
Sub-inspector Ashraful Islam of Savar Police Station, also investigation officer of a case filed in connection with the rape of the college girl, produced the victim before the court and appealed for recording her statement.
On Friday, police arrested three young men and a girl in connection with the violation of the college girl.
The arrested are Liza, 20, a first-year student of Singair Degree College, Rayhan, 20, a second-year student of Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology in the capital, Mohidul Rahman, 20, a Masters student of Savar University College, and Sujon, 25, a resident of Azimpur in the city.
In her statement, the college girl said her friend Liza tactically picked her up from her house and took her to a mess at Bank Colony under Savar Municipality where Jahed alias Raju, 22 raped her.
One Shahin took footage of the incident and Danesh, 35, demanded money to the mother of the victim threatening to post the footage on internet.
The family members of the victim kept the incident secret till January 3 though it took place on November 25 last year.
The victim’s family filed a case against 11 people with Savar Police Station on the night of January 3.
The other accused in the case are Jahed, a Honours second-year student of Savar University College, Shahin, Shamim, 24, of Singair, Lutfar, Danesh, 35, Masud, 24, and Alim, 25.
The arrested four who were placed on a four-day remand on Friday admitted to their involvement in the incident during preliminary interrogation by police.
