Ershad not joining 14-party rally

Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad will not join the Wednesday’s rally sponsored by 14-party alliance as he left Dhaka for Singapore on Tuesday night.

When asked, whether JP, a key ally of 14-party alliance, will join in the rally or not, party secretary general ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader told banglanews: “JP is yet to decide the matter.”

However, seeking anonymity, a JP presidium member said, “We will not attend the rally despite receiving invitation from Awami League.”

Awami League did not fulfill commitments gave to JP during last general election and JP leaders including its secretary general have been assaulted by AL leaders, activists in respective constituency. So, we have taken decision not to join in the rally, the JP leader narrated.

During visit Feni River on March 6, Ershad told journalists: “I will not join in the 14-party’s grand rally.”

The Awami League led 14-party alliance will stage a grand rally at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital Wednesday.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the party chief, will address the rally, party sources said.

On March 1, the announcement of holding grand rally came from a meeting of 14-party alliance held at Prime Minister’s Office.

The 14-party alliance called the programme protesting ill attempts to foil the trial of the war criminals and plot to hinder the progress of the democratic government.

Awami League advisory member, deputy leader in the House and also coordinator of 14-party alliance Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury will preside over the rally.
